A Small Cafe With Big Flavor
This week's local business spotlight goes to Red Hen Cafe in Helendale — a cozy Route 66 diner serving up hearty breakfast and lunch plates just off the historic highway. I stopped in recently and can tell you firsthand: it is small, but the service was great, and the food backed it up. I have been on a personal quest to try every Chicken Fried Steak in the High Desert, and Red Hen's Chicken Fried Steak & Eggs Skillet did not disappoint — a hearty, comforting plate that is exactly what you want from a classic Route 66 diner. Why We're Spotlighting Them
Route 66 is full of roadside stops that trade on nostalgia alone, but Red Hen backs it up with real, made-to-order comfort food and a team that makes you feel like a regular the first time you walk in. If you are craving a classic breakfast skillet, a hearty lunch plate, or just an excuse to explore a piece of Helendale's Route 66 history, this is one of those local spots worth putting on your list. Support Local
Next time you are out toward Helendale, stop by Red Hen Cafe and support a local Route 66 business — and ask for the Chicken Fried Steak & Eggs Skillet while you are at it. 🏗️ Commercial Property of the Week
Bear Valley Road Commercial Infill Lot — C-2 Zoning in Hesperia
✅ C-2 General Commercial
📍 Bear Valley Road Frontage
🚗 Approx. 55,000 ADT
🏢 Retail / Restaurant / Auto / Services
|
||||
🎯 THIS WEEK'S OPERATOR PLAY
Bear Valley Road keeps proving itself as one of the busiest commercial corridors in the Victor Valley — this is a rare shot at a level, ready-to-build C-2 lot on that same stretch, surrounded by retailers that already pull daily traffic.
|
📍 0 Bear Valley Road, Hesperia, CA 92345 Still available and still turning heads: this C-2 General Commercial infill parcel on Bear Valley Road sits on one of the High Desert's busiest retail and service corridors. The lot runs approximately 0.699 acres inside the City of Hesperia, fronting a stretch that sees roughly 55,000 vehicles a day. 💡 Best Fit: Retail / Restaurant / Auto-Related / Service Use C-2 zoning keeps the door open for a wide range of concepts — retail, restaurant, auto-related uses, personal services, and other neighborhood-serving commercial operators, subject to city approval and buyer verification.
📊 Corridor Note Bear Valley Road remains one of the most recognizable commercial corridors in the Victor Valley, and level, C-2-zoned infill parcels like this one do not sit on the market long. For operators who need visibility, traffic counts, and nearby daily-needs retail activity, this is worth a serious look now. Commercial land in established corridors is hard to replace once it is gone. This parcel offers the kind of practical frontage and surrounding business activity that continues to appeal to owner-users, developers, and investors looking for a Hesperia commercial site with strong local exposure. Buyer to verify all information including lot size, zoning, permitted uses, traffic counts, utilities, access, development requirements, availability of services, property boundaries, environmental conditions, and all property features. Listing information deemed reliable but not guaranteed and subject to change without notice. Listing courtesy of Robert St. Onge, First Team Real Estate. |

🏛️ Hometown HistoryCorona Edition
The Circle City That Raced LegendsLong before it was known for lemons, Corona was known for speed. Back in 1886, the city's founders laid out a perfectly circular boulevard — about a mile across — surrounding the original townsite, and it is the reason Corona still carries the nickname "Circle City" today. In 1913, a group of local boosters looked at that mile-wide circle and saw something else entirely: a racetrack. They paved it, built grandstands, and hosted the Corona Road Races, drawing legendary drivers like Barney Oldfield and Eddie Rickenbacker (yes, the future World War I flying ace) to compete for a $10,000 purse — a massive sum at the time. Thousands of spectators packed the circle for races in 1913, 1914, and 1916, before safety concerns brought the events to an end. Grand Boulevard still loops around downtown Corona today, a quiet reminder of the city's wild need for speed. Quick takeaway: Corona's downtown streets were literally built as a giant circle — and for a few wild years in the 1910s, that circle was one of the most famous auto-racing circuits in America. Question: Ever driven the loop around downtown Corona without realizing you were tracing a 1913 racetrack? Sources: City of Corona — History of Corona and Wikipedia — Corona, California.
