🌄 The Kind of High Desert Property That's Getting Harder to Find

Nearly an acre, a custom tri-level home, expansive High Desert views, multiple outdoor spaces, and a detached RV-style workshop would already make this property stand out. Put it only about four minutes from Jess Ranch, and the combination becomes even more unusual.

Why 18785 Talisman Deserves a Closer Look
  • Approx. 0.85-acre setting offering privacy, open space, and plenty of breathing room
  • Approx. 35' × 24' detached RV-style workshop for vehicles, projects, tools, storage, or recreational equipment
  • Only about four minutes from Jess Ranch for shopping, dining, groceries, entertainment, medical offices, and services
  • Custom tri-level floor plan with approximately 2,384 square feet and multiple distinct living areas
  • Recently installed new roof, taking care of a significant property improvement
  • Multiple decks and balconies designed to take advantage of the elevated setting and surrounding High Desert scenery
  • Flexible bonus space suitable for an office, gym, hobby room, creative space, sunroom, or other use
  • Lower-level family room featuring an open-beam ceiling, wood-burning stove, and access to the patio and garage
  • Horseshoe-style driveway adding practical access and additional usable space around the property
  • Seller may consider a flooring credit with an acceptable offer, giving the next owner an opportunity to personalize portions of the home

One of the biggest advantages here is something buyers often struggle to find in the same property: space without isolation. You can come home to a quieter setting with more land and more separation from neighboring homes without giving up quick access to the places you use every day.

Inside, the tri-level design creates separation between living spaces and gives the home flexibility that a conventional single-level floor plan may not offer. The lower-level family room has its own personality, with an open-beam ceiling, wood-burning stove, and direct connection to the patio and garage.

The decks and balconies make the outdoor setting part of the home. Whether it is morning coffee, an evening outside, or simply taking in the wide-open High Desert views, there are multiple places to enjoy the property beyond the interior walls.

🔧 And Then There's the Workshop...

At approximately 35 feet by 24 feet, the detached RV-style workshop may be the feature that seals the deal for the right buyer. If you have cars, tools, toys, equipment, projects, or simply need serious storage space, this is the kind of improvement that can be difficult and expensive to recreate somewhere else.

Add the recently completed roof, nearly an acre of land, flexible bonus space, and the possibility of a flooring credit, and this property offers a lot of the ingredients High Desert buyers ask for—land, usable space, views, storage, privacy, and convenience.

The Lifestyle in One Sentence

Spread out on nearly an acre, finally have room for the workshop and toys, enjoy the High Desert views—and still be only minutes from Jess Ranch.

Seller Flexibility Note: Seller may consider a flooring credit with an acceptable offer. Any credit, concession, or terms are subject to seller approval, lender approval if applicable, and final written agreement between the parties.

Location Note: Travel times are approximate and can vary based on the specific destination within Jess Ranch, traffic, road conditions, and route.

A Taste of Little Havana Hidden in Rancho Cucamonga

This week's Local Business Spotlight takes us to Calle Ocho Cuban Cafecito, a family-run Rancho Cucamonga restaurant serving Cuban sandwiches, empanadas, cafecito, and other favorites while celebrating the food and culture of Cuba.

Calle Ocho has been serving the Inland Empire since 2016. The restaurant takes its name from Miami's famous Calle Ocho—Eighth Street—the heart of the city's Little Havana neighborhood.

Why We're Spotlighting Them
  • Family-owned and operated, with a story built around faith, family, hard work, and Cuban heritage
  • Known for its Cuban sandwich, combining roast pork, ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard
  • Traditional Cuban coffee and cafecito for anyone who likes their coffee with some personality
  • Fresh empanadas with fillings including beef, pork, chicken, and guava with cheese
  • Ropa Vieja Fries featuring shredded beef with Cuban spices, garlic fries, and Swiss cheese
  • A genuine community atmosphere, with much of the Cuban memorabilia inside donated by customers

Owner Denise Perez-McCaine and her husband built Calle Ocho from humble beginnings into a gathering place where customers come not only for the food, but for the welcoming atmosphere and sense of community.

ABC7's On The Menu feature highlighted something particularly cool about the restaurant: roughly 90% of the Cuban memorabilia displayed inside was donated by customers. Family photographs and cultural keepsakes help give the small restaurant the feeling of a neighborhood Cuban café rather than a cookie-cutter chain.

The food is reason enough to stop in. Along with Cuban coffee and empanadas, Calle Ocho has become known for its classic Cuban sandwich and creative specialties such as Ropa Vieja Fries.

🥪 This One Is Going on My List

Anybody who knows me knows I love a good Cuban sandwich, so this is one Local Business Spotlight that may require a little personal field research. A Cuban sandwich and cafecito sounds like a pretty good reason to make a Rancho Cucamonga lunch stop.

Business information is provided for community awareness and may change without notice. Please contact Calle Ocho Cuban Cafecito directly or check its current social media pages before visiting for current hours, menu items, pricing, ordering options, and availability.

🏗️ Commercial Property of the Week
Bear Valley Road Commercial Infill Lot — C-2 Zoning in Hesperia
✅ C-2 General Commercial 📍 Bear Valley Road Frontage 🚗 Approx. 55,000 ADT 🏢 Retail / Restaurant / Auto / Services
0 Bear Valley Road, Hesperia CA 92345 — C-2 commercial infill land parcel on Bear Valley Road
Offered At
$350,000
Lot Size
Approx. 0.699 Acres
Property Profile
C-2 Commercial • Infill Lot • MLS #CV26124179
🎯 THIS WEEK'S OPERATOR PLAY
Bear Valley Road keeps proving itself as one of the busiest commercial corridors in the Victor Valley — this is a rare shot at a level, ready-to-build C-2 lot on that same stretch, surrounded by retailers that already pull daily traffic.

📍 0 Bear Valley Road, Hesperia, CA 92345

Still available and still turning heads: this C-2 General Commercial infill parcel on Bear Valley Road sits on one of the High Desert's busiest retail and service corridors. The lot runs approximately 0.699 acres inside the City of Hesperia, fronting a stretch that sees roughly 55,000 vehicles a day.

💡 Best Fit: Retail / Restaurant / Auto-Related / Service Use

C-2 zoning keeps the door open for a wide range of concepts — retail, restaurant, auto-related uses, personal services, and other neighborhood-serving commercial operators, subject to city approval and buyer verification.

  • One of the last Bear Valley Road infill opportunities still on the market in Hesperia.
  • Approx. 0.699-acre level rectangular lot, ready for site planning and development.
  • C-2 General Commercial zoning with possible retail, restaurant, auto-related, and personal service uses.
  • High-traffic corridor exposure with approximately 55,000 average daily vehicles passing the site.
  • Surrounded by proven commercial activity, including Arco, Little Caesars, Food for Less, Metro PCS, and other nearby retailers and services.
  • Less than 2 miles from I-15 and the Mall of Victor Valley, adding regional access and consumer traffic potential.
  • Utilities available in the area. APN: 0414-031-09.

📊 Corridor Note

Bear Valley Road remains one of the most recognizable commercial corridors in the Victor Valley, and level, C-2-zoned infill parcels like this one do not sit on the market long. For operators who need visibility, traffic counts, and nearby daily-needs retail activity, this is worth a serious look now.

Commercial land in established corridors is hard to replace once it is gone. This parcel offers the kind of practical frontage and surrounding business activity that continues to appeal to owner-users, developers, and investors looking for a Hesperia commercial site with strong local exposure.

Buyer to verify all information including lot size, zoning, permitted uses, traffic counts, utilities, access, development requirements, availability of services, property boundaries, environmental conditions, and all property features. The Real MVPs of a Home Make Everyday Life Better

Every buyer has a wish list, but the features that make a home more flexible, convenient, and enjoyable often leave the biggest impression. 🏡

Home features and spaces that buyers value for flexibility, convenience, and everyday living
The best features are often the ones that make a home easier and more enjoyable to live in every day.
Buyers Are Looking Beyond the Checklist

Bedrooms and bathrooms matter, but buyers are also paying attention to how a home actually works for their everyday lives. The spaces that offer flexibility, convenience, and room to grow can make a property feel like a much better fit.

Every buyer walks into a home with a slightly different wish list. Some may need space to work from home, others want room for family or hobbies, and many simply appreciate a layout that makes everyday routines easier.

What often makes the strongest impression is not one flashy feature, but how well the home adapts to the buyer's lifestyle. Flexible spaces can serve different purposes over time, while thoughtful storage, useful gathering areas, and functional indoor and outdoor spaces can make a home feel more comfortable and easier to live in.

What Can Make a Home Stand Out?
  • Flexible spaces that can change as a household's needs change
  • Convenient layouts that make daily routines feel easier
  • Useful storage that helps keep everyday life organized
  • Comfortable gathering spaces where family and friends can spend time together
  • Room to grow for changing family, work, hobby, or lifestyle needs
  • Indoor and outdoor spaces that feel practical as well as enjoyable

Understanding what buyers appreciate can also be useful long before you put a home on the market. When it is time to make improvements, reorganize a room, or decide where to invest your money, thinking about functionality and flexibility can help you make smarter choices.

🏛️ Hometown History

Wrightwood Edition

Historic ski jumping in the Big Pines and Wrightwood area of Southern California
Ski jumping became serious business in the mountains around Wrightwood as Southern California promoted the Big Pines area as a major winter-sports destination.

The Winter Olympics Almost Came to Wrightwood

Today, Wrightwood is well known throughout Southern California for skiing and snowboarding at Mountain High. But nearly a century ago, promoters had a much bigger winter-sports dream for these mountains: bringing the 1932 Winter Olympic Games to the Wrightwood and Big Pines area.

During the late 1920s, nearby Big Pines Recreation Camp was developing into an important Southern California winter playground. Skiing, ice skating, hockey, and ski jumping attracted visitors to the mountains, and ambitious ski-jump facilities were constructed on the slopes near Big Pines.

Southern California boosters believed the mountain setting could help complement Los Angeles' successful push to host the 1932 Summer Olympics. The Big Pines and Wrightwood area became part of California's effort to land the Winter Games as well, with major ski-jumping facilities helping demonstrate that Southern California could offer far more than beaches and sunshine.

Historic photographs preserved through Calisphere and the USC Libraries show just how established the winter-sports scene had become. Images from 1929 capture competitors soaring from the ski jumps at Big Pines while spectators gathered on the snowy mountainsides below.

The Olympic dream ultimately went east. Lake Placid, New York hosted the 1932 Winter Olympics, while Los Angeles hosted the Summer Games later that year. But the Wrightwood-area ski culture continued to grow, helping establish a winter-sports tradition that survives today in the resorts and recreation areas surrounding the community.

Quick takeaway: Long before Mountain High became a familiar Southern California ski destination, the Wrightwood and Big Pines area was being promoted for something far bigger—the 1932 Winter Olympic Games.

Question: Did you know the mountains around Wrightwood once had Olympic-sized ambitions—or have you ever seen any remains or old photographs of the Big Pines ski jumps?
