Why 913 Condor Stands Out
  • Five bedrooms and two full bathrooms in a practical one-story floor plan
  • Approximately 1,871 square feet of living space on a level rectangular lot
  • Turnkey condition with upgraded finishes and a clean, refreshed interior

  • Walk-in pantry and walk-in closet for useful storage
  • Inside laundry room rather than laundry in the garage
  • Private above-ground spa for relaxing at home
  • Attached two-car garage with direct access plus driveway parking
  • Central air plus evaporative cooling for High Desert summers

The Lifestyle in One Sentence

This Is More Than Just a Place to Grab a Burger

Head south out of Barstow on Barstow Road and eventually you will find one of the High Desert’s most distinctive destinations: Slash X Ranch Cafe, a rustic desert gathering place where good food, off-road culture, local history, and a little Hollywood all come together.

Located near the Stoddard Valley off-highway vehicle area, Slash X has become a natural stopping point for people exploring the surrounding desert. Dirt bikes, side-by-sides, Jeeps, trucks, motorcycles, road-trippers, and longtime locals all seem to find their way here.

Why Slash X Stands Out
  • Authentic High Desert atmosphere that feels more like a desert landmark than an ordinary roadside restaurant
  • A favorite stop for off-road enthusiasts exploring the Stoddard Valley area and surrounding desert trails
  • Classic casual food including burgers, breakfast favorites, sandwiches, fries, and hearty comfort-food choices
  • Thousands of hats decorating the interior, many left behind by visitors who wanted to leave their own little piece of Slash X history
  • Featured by Huell Howser, who explored the cafe’s history and one-of-a-kind desert personality
  • A genuine Hollywood filming location used for a barroom scene in Erin Brockovich

Part of the fun is simply looking around. Slash X has preserved the kind of unpolished, old-school desert character that is becoming harder to find. The walls, memorabilia, rustic furnishings, and famously hat-covered ceiling make it clear that generations of visitors have made this place part of their desert adventures.

Its reputation eventually caught the attention of Huell Howser, who visited Slash X and introduced viewers to the people, stories, and personality behind this unusual desert stop.

One of its better-known Hollywood connections is Erin Brockovich. A barroom scene from the film was shot inside Slash X, giving this little desert cafe an unexpected connection to one of the best-known movies filmed around the Barstow and Hinkley area.

Worth the Drive

Whether you arrive covered in desert dust after a trail ride or simply make the drive because you have never been there before, Slash X is one of those uniquely High Desert places that is difficult to duplicate anywhere else.

Business information is provided for community awareness and may change without notice. Slash X Ranch Cafe operates on a limited schedule that may vary by season, events, or other circumstances. Please check the official website or call directly for current hours, menu items, events, and availability before visiting.

🏗️ Commercial Property of the Week
Bear Valley Road Commercial Infill Lot — C-2 Zoning in Hesperia
✅ C-2 General Commercial 📍 Bear Valley Road Frontage 🚗 Approx. 55,000 ADT 🏢 Retail / Restaurant / Auto / Services
0 Bear Valley Road, Hesperia CA 92345 — C-2 commercial infill land parcel on Bear Valley Road
Offered At
$350,000
Lot Size
Approx. 0.699 Acres
Property Profile
C-2 Commercial • Infill Lot • MLS #CV26124179
🎯 THIS WEEK'S OPERATOR PLAY
Bear Valley Road keeps proving itself as one of the busiest commercial corridors in the Victor Valley — this is a rare shot at a level, ready-to-build C-2 lot on that same stretch, surrounded by retailers that already pull daily traffic.

📍 0 Bear Valley Road, Hesperia, CA 92345

Still available and still turning heads: this C-2 General Commercial infill parcel on Bear Valley Road sits on one of the High Desert's busiest retail and service corridors. The lot runs approximately 0.699 acres inside the City of Hesperia, fronting a stretch that sees roughly 55,000 vehicles a day.

💡 Best Fit: Retail / Restaurant / Auto-Related / Service Use

C-2 zoning keeps the door open for a wide range of concepts — retail, restaurant, auto-related uses, personal services, and other neighborhood-serving commercial operators, subject to city approval and buyer verification.

  • One of the last Bear Valley Road infill opportunities still on the market in Hesperia.
  • Approx. 0.699-acre level rectangular lot, ready for site planning and development.
  • C-2 General Commercial zoning with possible retail, restaurant, auto-related, and personal service uses.
  • High-traffic corridor exposure with approximately 55,000 average daily vehicles passing the site.
  • Surrounded by proven commercial activity, including Arco, Little Caesars, Food for Less, Metro PCS, and other nearby retailers and services.
  • Less than 2 miles from I-15 and the Mall of Victor Valley, adding regional access and consumer traffic potential.
  • Utilities available in the area. APN: 0414-031-09.

📊 Corridor Note

Bear Valley Road remains one of the most recognizable commercial corridors in the Victor Valley, and level, C-2-zoned infill parcels like this one do not sit on the market long. For operators who need visibility, traffic counts, and nearby daily-needs retail activity, this is worth a serious look now.

Commercial land in established corridors is hard to replace once it is gone. This parcel offers the kind of practical frontage and surrounding business activity that continues to appeal to owner-users, developers, and investors looking for a Hesperia commercial site with strong local exposure.

Buyer to verify all information including lot size, zoning, permitted uses, traffic counts, utilities, access, development requirements, availability of services, property boundaries, environmental conditions, and all property features. Renting vs. Owning: It’s About More Than the Monthly Payment

Renting can make sense for certain seasons of life, but homeownership can offer benefits that extend well beyond simply having a place to call your own. 🏡

Renting versus homeownership and the long-term benefits of owning a home
The best choice depends on your finances, lifestyle, plans, and the local market—not on a one-size-fits-all rule.
Homeownership Can Build Something Over Time

When you own a home and make mortgage payments, part of that payment may reduce your loan balance and increase your ownership stake in the property. Over time, that equity can become an important part of your financial picture.

Renting offers flexibility and can absolutely be the right choice when you expect to move soon, are rebuilding finances, prefer not to handle maintenance, or simply value the freedom of a shorter-term commitment.

Homeownership, however, can offer a different set of long-term benefits. Along with the potential to build equity, a fixed-rate mortgage can make the principal-and-interest portion of your housing payment more predictable than rent that may increase over time. Property taxes, insurance, HOA fees, utilities, and maintenance costs can still change.

Reasons Buyers Often Consider Making the Move
  • The opportunity to build equity instead of paying rent indefinitely
  • More control over the property, subject to local rules and any HOA restrictions
  • Potential for long-term appreciation, although property values can rise or fall
  • Greater predictability in the principal-and-interest payment with a fixed-rate mortgage
  • The ability to put down roots when your lifestyle and long-term plans make that attractive

The right choice ultimately depends on your lifestyle, finances, credit, available cash, expected time in the home, and long-term goals. Buying is not automatically better than renting—but if you have been renting for a while, it may be worth finding out what ownership would actually look like for you.

Wondering Whether It’s Time?

Send me a message and let’s compare the numbers. We can look at what you are paying in rent, what homes in your price range actually cost, and whether buying now—or preparing to buy later—makes sense for you.

🏛️ Hometown History

Riverside Edition

Historic Harada House on Lemon Street in Riverside, California
Harada House at 3356 Lemon Street became the center of a nationally watched fight over citizenship and the right to own property.

The Riverside House at the Center of a Landmark Fight Over Property Rights

Drive past 3356 Lemon Street in Riverside and you might see what appears to be an ordinary early-20th-century home. But this house became the center of a nationally watched legal battle over one of the most basic pieces of the American dream: the right to own a home.

Japanese immigrant Jukichi Harada purchased the home in 1915 after his family had settled in Riverside. At the time, California’s Alien Land Law prevented immigrants considered ineligible for U.S. citizenship—primarily Asian immigrants—from owning real estate.

Harada therefore placed ownership of the house in the names of his three American-born children, Mine, Sumi, and Yoshizo. Because they had been born in the United States, they were American citizens. Some neighbors objected and tried to persuade the family to sell. When Harada refused, the dispute ultimately reached Riverside Superior Court in a case brought by the State of California.

⚖️ Riverside Became the Test Case

In 1918, Riverside Superior Court Judge Hugh Craig ruled that although California’s Alien Land Law remained in effect, the Harada children were American citizens protected by the 14th Amendment and therefore had the same constitutional right to own property as other citizens.

The decision allowed the children to keep the house and made the Harada case an important early civil-rights challenge to California’s discriminatory property laws. The case received national and international attention as questions of citizenship, race, immigration, and property ownership played out in a Riverside courtroom.

The story took another extraordinary turn more than two decades later. After the United States entered World War II, the Harada family was among the Japanese Americans forcibly removed from the West Coast and sent to government incarceration camps.

📝 A Message Still Remains on the Wall

Before the family was forced to leave Riverside in 1942, Harold Harada wrote a simple note on an upstairs bedroom wall recording their departure: “Evacuated on May 23, 1942 Sat. 7am.” The writing survives inside the house today.

Family friend Jess Stebler cared for the property while the Haradas were gone. After the war, daughter Sumi Harada returned to Riverside and opened the house to other displaced Japanese American families who needed a place to stay while rebuilding their lives.

Harada House remained in the family for decades and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1990. Today it is preserved as a reminder that a quiet family home on Lemon Street once became the setting for a legal battle with implications far beyond Riverside.

Quick takeaway: In 1918, a Riverside court affirmed that the American-born Harada children could own their family home despite California laws aimed at preventing Asian immigrants from owning land—making this ordinary Lemon Street house an extraordinary civil-rights landmark.

Question: Have you ever driven past Harada House in Riverside without realizing the nationally important story that unfolded there?
